The Internet Would Be Perfect.

I have just finished reading this article.

It’s about some video posted on GoogleItaly. The video featured a person with down syndrome, being bullied – of course this is a horrible thing.
Everyone will agree with that. However, the ‘people’ want to know how a video containing such in-humane acts was allowed to be published online.

Google is basically being sued for allowing this to happen. They are being accused of not filtering content correctly and not responding to complaints in a quick manner.

The thing is….you have to look at this from the big picture. GoogleVideo has, I don’t know around 40million videos on it? ‘Active filtering’ would take a 1000 years, and you’d need hundreds of staff to monitor the videos. It’s completely unworkable.

So what if say…100 complaints = the video to be blocked until reviewed? This could work…but its open to abuse if not properly worked out. Maybe ‘flagging’ is only open to registered and authenticated users? Who knows.

However, if Google is found guilty and all videos in Italy become ‘pre-approved only’ then social videos will be completley lost. They might as well watch TV. Its just another thing leading towards the Internet being regulated – which I never want to see.

If it wasn’t for the minor few posting videos etc like this online then the Internet would be perfect. Alas, it’s not.

Employee of the Month

Buses being bricked and a watching of ‘What Dreams May Come’.

What is society coming to? What would fuel a kid’s urge to throw a brick at a bus and possibly injure several passengers? Is it society as it stands? Is it the violent world we live in? Or is it the kid’s parents? Or music? Maybe its the ‘British way’?

To be honest, I don’t really know. I’ve never really been into the whole ‘brick throwing at buses’ stage so I wouldn’t know why I’d do it. Maybe it is the parents but everything seems to be blamed on them these days. I don’t think its the media but then thats coming from a person who has been studying it for five years so I know how to react to it.

Its disgusting to know this stuff happens. Anyway, the bus in question was Leona’s and she, nor anyone else was injured so I’m led to believe.

After Leona came around we watched ‘What Dreams May Come’. Its one of Robin Williams’ non-comedic pieces and I find it to be one of his all-time best films much like ‘One Hour Photo’ and ‘Insomnia’. Well I can’t forget ‘Mrs Doubtfire’ that one’s just pure brilliance.

Later on Jamie and I watched ‘Employee of the Month’. Since it was my second watch (and Jamie’s first) I was seeing things which I hadn’t seen before. I found the film to be much like ‘The 40 Year old Virgin’; with a very male-orientated cast and a common goal. The goal in this one is to secure Dane Cook the title of ‘Employee of the Month’. Best Quote: ‘this is an ‘81 Honda, how dare you!’

2007 Here I Come

Well, its 2007.

I’m not going to bore you with resolutions and promises because I’ve not made any. Has anyone ever actually kept one?

Earlier in the day, well for a large part of it I had a mini-day-out with Leona. We went to Oakwell Hall and it was rather nice albeit, very windy. The house now has free admission (till February) so we took this opportunity to go in it. I’ve been in the 15th century mansion many, many times now – it was Leona’s first and I believe she was impressed. I was too busy avoiding the extremely-low door frames and making jokes to properly notice. But yeah, it was a nice day.

On the way home from Leona’s the car’s heatplate fell off the car. The heatplate basically makes the car more fuel efficient as it stops the fuel evaporating. Well, I don’t have one anymore (the car is still fine Leona!).

Then it was on to Gill’s. We had a chinese takeaway which was nice.

Anyway, I celebrated the entry into 2007 at Hannah’s (she’s Chris’ girlfriend). It was a nice night with the addition of ‘Articulate’. However, I’m randomly no longer good at it, oh well.

I do wish a prosperous New Year to all of my friends and family, however.

This year will see most of my friends become officially educated as most of their University courses draw to a close – I’ll attain the title ‘BSc’ which I’ll obviously, use all the time.

2007 here I come,
Charlie.

PS – Yes, I know I started a sentence with ‘But’…oh well.
PPS – Thanks for the spell check Leona!
