Stadium Arcadium

WOW.

What a venue. I’d never been to the Don Valley Stadium in Sheffield before nor had Mr Robert Carter. The mighty Red Hot Chilli Peppers were due to start at 2045, after support acts: Ben Harper and !!! (pronounced Thk, Thk, Thk) had finished their slots (neither were that bad, rather nice warm up acts).

It was the first time either of us had seen the ‘Peppers so I was rather exited. The venue and crowd also added to the atmosphere: outdoor, warm, sunny and the people were all happy.

So, the ‘Peppers came on with Can’t Stop which was brilliant live.

Actually of their set was great, the best thing about rock gigis from big bands is not the tracks its the stuff they play in between AND the band seemed really up for it, which is always great. Flea jumped around as much as a Flea, greatly accompanied by the likes of Anthony Keidis and his silver mic stand. Chad Smith was great on drums as per usual and John Frusciante boomed some awesome guitar licks over the 25,000-or-so of us.

The set ended in an encore with By The Way and Give It Away with a ten-minute outro at the end. All this was in tandam with some great lighting and visuals back stage.

This was definately Stadium Arcadium. The M.E.N and Earls Court won’t top this.

In other, more important news. Today marks the first anniversary of the London Terrorist attacks. At this time last year Mr Richard Harwood and I had just returned from London after visiting on the 6th to celebrate the 2012 bid and to visit the beautiful city.We were due to return early morning, 7th July. We ended up reaching Leeds around 5am and when we woke up (a few hours earliar) to some extremely horrible news:

52 people had been killed in London.

My thoughts and best wishes go to all the families caught in this tragedy. The UK observes a minutes silence at 1200BST.

Charlie.
