The Internet Would Be Perfect.

I have just finished reading this article.

It’s about some video posted on GoogleItaly. The video featured a person with down syndrome, being bullied – of course this is a horrible thing.
Everyone will agree with that. However, the ‘people’ want to know how a video containing such in-humane acts was allowed to be published online.

Google is basically being sued for allowing this to happen. They are being accused of not filtering content correctly and not responding to complaints in a quick manner.

The thing is….you have to look at this from the big picture. GoogleVideo has, I don’t know around 40million videos on it? ‘Active filtering’ would take a 1000 years, and you’d need hundreds of staff to monitor the videos. It’s completely unworkable.

So what if say…100 complaints = the video to be blocked until reviewed? This could work…but its open to abuse if not properly worked out. Maybe ‘flagging’ is only open to registered and authenticated users? Who knows.

However, if Google is found guilty and all videos in Italy become ‘pre-approved only’ then social videos will be completley lost. They might as well watch TV. Its just another thing leading towards the Internet being regulated – which I never want to see.

If it wasn’t for the minor few posting videos etc like this online then the Internet would be perfect. Alas, it’s not.

I’ve Killed Many Gorillas.

My efforts on Tomb Raider (after Laura let me play it) are so far pretty good. I’m quite far ahead and I’ve killed many Gorillas. Overall it’s a pretty good game.

Today, Jamie and I went to see the new Elisha Cutherbert film which I’ve completely forgotten the name of. Its a horror ‘Captive’ I think it is or ‘Captured’ either way it isn’t that good it’s also horrifically short – running in at 1hr 25min – overall you don’t get much film for your buck.

The new Biffy Clyro album is pretty good, as is Thirty Seconds To Mars’  ‘A Beautiful Lie’ – but that’s not very new.

Pre-production has officially started on the new July Rising video – basically, Jamie and I are throwing around a few ideas and I’m trying to work out how to implement those. I suppose that makes him creative consultant – whatever he is its gonna’ be more superior than ‘drummer’.

Warring Green tonight. Ain’t seen them in a while.

Oh Leona, new Frasier box set - that is all.

- Charlie.

PS – Pffff, rain. Rain

What The Hell Is Live Earth?

I’ve been thinking quite a lot recently about this whole ‘climate change’ thing and the efforts we’re going to in trying to stop it.

I’ve always said (to my friends etc) the UK, as a whole makes no difference well maybe 000000.75% difference to the Planet’s atmosphere. Unless the US, China, Russia, India 100% sign up to reduce their emissions then there is no point whatsoever.

I am all for recycling – I hate putting stuff in the ground that will be there for millions of years but as for emissions, in this country, I’m not really bothered.

Live Earth. What the hell is Live Earth? Its another one of those ridiculous music events staged to ‘create awareness’. Hmm but does it? Live Earth is particularly about the climate and carbon footprints. I’m sure it’ll be a fantastic musical event but what kind of carbon footprint is each massive concert going to make? Tour bus’, hundreds of them, private jets…
Muse recently issued a statement concerning Live Earth:

“Although we were delighted to have been approached and applaud the sentiment of the event, we feel it would be inappropriate for us to play there as we have a gig in Dublin the same evening and therefore a private jet would be the only method of transport available to us, our crew and equipment. We feel the unnecessary additional carbon emissions from private jets would be a contradiction to the intention of the event. We also do not think carbon offsetting is a viable solution to this particular problem.”

Brilliant. So yeah, what is the point?
