Height Restriction Bar

Yesterday at IKEA wasn’t different to any other day except, at 2040 a customer didn’t acknowledge that their van was higher than our height restriction bar which was set at a very common 6′6”.

The IKEA car park is only restricted in its multistorey section, everywhere else is unrestricted. Anyway, several coworkers and I had to shift the extremely heavy height restriction pole while someone else collected the relevant insurance details.

Due to this incident I missed bowling. To the bowlers: Who won eternal glory by beating you all?

Dark and Dingy Roads

Yesterday was rather action-packed; it featured bowling and a somewhat rather frightening midnight drive….

So, yeah bowling. Matt, Joe, Adam W, Imran, Adam S, Dan, Zoë and I all went bowling to Huddersfield. Overall it was very fun as per usual but I, once again picked the size 10, large ball with the slit inside the thumb hole so my thumb ached by the end of the second game.

Lets just say that prompted some fierce hand washing!

After bowling everybody went home, until later than evening when I decided to go to the pub and cordially invite several people. In the end Joe, Adam W, Jamie, Matt and Zoë came but it was nice. On a random note Jamie and I passed fellow IKEA co-worker Miss Amy Dransfield and her friend Sarah on the way to Joe’s but I don’t think she noticed…

We decided to call in at the Hare & Hounds pub in Upper Hopton where it turns out that they sell chips and let you buy them but you can’t in fact buy them on their own. I’m sure if Adam or Joe comment they will both tell you more on the subject.

Eleven o’ clock passed and we decided to leave the pub. Matt and Zoë departed for Heckmondwike whilst Jamie, Joe and Adam decided to go for a random drive – instead of turning right, we turned left!!! Argh!!

Several dark and dingy roads later and killing several midges we arrived at HD8; also know as Emley. We stopped off at the fantastic Emley Moor Mast (the tallest free-standing object in the British Isles at 1084ft!) and looked at the stars. Incidentally, Adam and I saw two shooting stars, Jamie saw one and Joe saw non (aww).

Right, off to work.

Charlie.

PS – I have launched a new section on the site, what do you think?

Efforts Thwarted!

I try to avoid Imran at all costs. He even ended up coming to the same university as me and that’s hard enough. I try and make sure I don’t see him that often but, once again (no 348694) my efforts were thwarted and Imran was stood in the lobby of the cinemas, damn! What made it worse…he was seeing the same film as Jamie and I, Slither which turned out to be a just the right amount of action/sci-fi/comedy, it was basically a re-worked version of the Duchovny masterpiece, Evolution

Just so you know, it was nice to see Imran spontaneously, as it always IS. Thing is, he’ll think he’s famous after reading this!

On to University news – after several nice, friendly words were exchanged between myself and Dan I am now properly credited along with Mr Richard Bolan on our drama. “Studio Director: Charles W. Brown”, sounds cool doesn’t it?

Jamie and I got back to bowling today, we weren’t THAT good, but after practice we’ll make the British Olympic team.

Back to media-orientated stuff. Jamie and I have just finished watching Flighplan, a brilliant film he purchased me for my 20th, and I believe he enjoyed it too however, and I quote “not enough sean bean action though” but I await his usual blog comment. Oh, I have also finally bought Shaun Of The Dead – a film so great it needed to grace my dvd collection.

And finally, be sure to listen to the University of Bradford’s radio station, RamAir, tomorrow where I’ll be Dave’s guest of honour or something like that on “Lucy and Dave’s Super Morning Show” due to Lucy’s absence. Listen to it here. (open it in Winamp)

PS – Oh and don’t forget to read Dan Grant’s new blog!
