Notes from a Tour Manager.

Ripped Off.

So, we’re back. Bristol is in the can. The kit has been returned and Luton is our last (but not least) location.

The best thing about Bristol was probably meeting (for the second time) Miss Elizabeth Elston of Kingswood. I was in the area so I thought I’d ‘SatNav-it’ and go pay her a visit. We visited Tesco and McDonald’s – pretty much what I do up here but 220miles away.

I wasn’t impressed with the level of snow this morning. Once again we Brits have been ripped off – there isn’t even enough to create a snowball. Typical.

I nearly had to pick up Madina Lake today. The tour bus simply broke down (it might have 300,000+ miles under it’s belt) and they were stuck in Newcastle so I was asked to pick them up. However, Martin formulated a plan and in the end it was repaired and the band are now on the way to Glasgow. They are then down to Yeovil then up to Leeds.

Bee-Stings.

I was ‘tutoring’ for a large part of yesterday. My pupil; Miss Laura Newey. The subject; Media.

I’m not claiming to be the most intellectual person in the subject of media but I do know the key concepts, theories etc (most of the relevant AS/A2 Stuff). Anyway, in most cases there is usually a better way of explaining something (by using a topical example, for example) than the text book.

So yeah, I was around at Laura’s for most of yesterday. I was treated to some exceedingly hot soup (too hot!). Soup shouldn’t be hot it just be ‘drinkable’. So… warm is the best, I suppose but after fifteen minutes ‘chillin’ out’ it was ‘just right’ as Goldilocks found the youngling’s porridge.

Later on in the evening Leona, Chris, Jamie and I went to see ‘The Pursuit of Happyness. Which was a rather enjoyable film from start to finish. Both Will Smith’s and his son’s performances were very good. I recommend this one.

Today was the documentary team’s first meeting of 2007. We’ve decided to film Nottingham and Luton on consecutive days which means four nights in two hotels and I love staying in hotels!

Oh, and another thing. Today I had my haircut. Nothing mental as always but the conversation I overheard in the salon was rather funny to be honest. The old woman to my left noted that small breasts are now called ‘bee-stings’ this was obviously to the astonishment of the hair dresser. Riveting.

I Chose To Go In The Living Room.

Friday, for the most part was really a general ‘do nothing’ day. However, I had to take all the video equipment back that I had been using to film Trivium with.

On the way back I checked out Comet to see some possible Christmas gifts and then I worked at 1600 till 2200, the usual. Since it is Christmas time it was rather dead. Yesterday also marked the day IKEA gives its co-workers their traditional end-of-year gift. Last years was a portable DVD player W/screen, this years is a fold up bike with ‘IKEA’ written all over it. I can’t imagine I’ll use it but I still think the fact IKEA gives gifts to its 9000 or so employees is pretty good going.

After work I went to see Leona which was nice. I had my Iron Maiden access all areas pass on so I could go anywhere in the house, I chose to go in the living room and watch Jonathan Ross’ show. It was nice to see Leona as always – she showed me her nice skirt which she bought for the upcoming IKEA party on Sunday where I’m ’suiting it up’ as usual. Unfortunately my ‘AAA’ pass didn’t entitle me to milk or sugar in my coffee; it was out of date and they had none, shocked and appalled Leona!

When I got home I had a rather long phone conversation with Laura, which was nice.

Today I need to buy some gifts for Christmas. Tomorrow is the IKEA party; Monday Jamie, Chris and I are flying to Iceland. Yes, the frozen food store.
