As Bright As The Sun
Hello World.
Its been a little over three months since my last post in which I announced Blessed By A Broken Heart’s worldwide signing to Tooth & Nail / EMI. Big things are still happening with them, most of it under wraps but a lot of it will be unveiled very soon.
I’m happy to announce we hired Dave Collins (www.davecollinsmastering) to master the tracks and he made them shine as bright as the sun (corny, but true) – check out his back catalogue. So many amazing soundtracks and albums sound like they do because of Dave we cannot wait to unveil this to the world.

Aside from Blessed HQ I have been working hard with Yorkshire-locals (therefore local to me!), Summerlin. July/August/September were insanely busy months for the band. Aside from the shows we had booked around the country the band were in the studio self producing and tracking their début album. Drew Lawson, the bands singer, produced and tracked it but we hired world-renown producer/mixer/mastering engineer Pelle Henricsson of Tonteknik Recording in Umea, Sweden to mix/master the record. Not only did he produce some magnificent records but Drew is a self-confessed super-fan, which is cool.
Since Sweden is, by air, relatively close we decided to hop on two flights to Pelle’s studio in Umea. It gave us a chance to listen to the mixes, give him our pointers and generally have a good business meeting. This whole business rests on relationships, if you don’t have good ones, you’re not gonna’ last (can’t work out if that is bad English or not…) and nothing beats a face-to-face encounter. Although I think we’re going straight-edge next time – at £7.80 a pint, a evening at the pub nearly totted up to an overnight stay in a swanky hotel!
Anyway, the meeting was super-beneficial. We got the masters back the other day, and they sound brilliant. Another record I can’t wait to get in the public domain.

Another band I have started working with is a spin-off from Canada’s “Secret & Whisper”… “Shreddy Krueger” features three members of SAW. In no way is it the same band. They did however, bring the same great song-writing SAW is known for but with an overall heavier vibe. 7-string features prominently which is never a bad thing.
UK band “The First” is another act I’m working with as they release their latest single and video. Great songs and their album is already out!
“The Skies Revolt” are still killing it. Their new album is sounding brilliant. Looking to license that overseas as the world needs to hear Dave’s weird and wonderful tunes.

In other news, its September! So that means great TV will be returning! New How I Met Your Mother, Dexter, Desperate Housewives, CSI, The Big Bang Theory, Archer, Bob’s Burgers, FG, The Simpsons, The Office etc etc. Some great finales due too – Breaking Bad, Alphas, Eureka…
More importantly… some great games are due out (let me just find my list..).. COD Modern Warfare 3, Gears of War 3 (already out..), Battlefield 3, Skyrim, Forza4, Batman Arkham City.. and more. Its a busy end of year thats for sure.
TV’s “The X Factor” is also back. I used to watch it when they dragged out the auditions (my favourite part) but since the revamp I’m no longer into it. I don’t have to watch it at all actually because my good friend Jess continually updates me, across all mediums… and unfortunately she doesn’t have the option to switch off notifications…

Blessed By A Broken Heart Sign To Tooth & Nail Records
HELLO!!!!
Finally! After months of prep by myself, the band and the label I/we can now officially announce my guys in BLESSED BY A BROKEN HEART are now a member of the Tooth & Nail Family.
The label created the gnarliest video ever (sorry all other T&N bands – haha) to announce this. I’m so happy at all the positive comments we’re receiving, you’ve no idea how much effort has gone into this announcement alone. The Team at T&N are fantastic, the band are let loose to do anything they want creativity wise and its paying off. The music literally slays all, I’m being honest here… The stuff is actually amazing. I cannot wait to get this out into the public domain. There’s a sampler on the trailer the label made…

Can’t wait to start the amazing album cycle this will definitely turn out to be.

PS – In other news, my latest addition to the Groom Lake Family ‘Summerlin’ will be buried deep in the studio next month recording their debut record. More amazing music to unleash on the world.. again cannot wait. I only work with bands that I truly love.. it makes my job a tiny bit easier….. 
Back To Real Blogging.
I think its time I got back to real blogging. Twitter is great and all but it has no depth to it… but it is great for keeping up with what my friends, favourite acts and work-colleges are up to.

At present, 2011 is set to be a very busy year… well, that’s what I’m hoping for. Of course with anything in the music industry nothing is really set in stone… until its actually set in stone. Major things depend on minor hinges and to sort them out can take weeks, or even months. Especially when it comes to recording contracts. Remember, these deals are, in most cases, for the life of the act so its super-important to get it right the first time because theres never normally any re-negotiation.
When it comes to contract negotiations, an artist must also assume they will sell tens of millions of records. In reality, this would be very unlikely – due to the saturation of the market – but, it is a possibility in an industry where anything can happen. So you have to make sure the contract is right, the first time.
